Also, Black's Law Dictionary (Deluxe Eighth Edition) gives the following general definition of "partnership":
A voluntary association of two or more persons who jointly own and carry on as a business for profit.
This same dictionary carries all the different types of "partnerships", each with their respective definitions.

Thanks so much for your reference Mem. My problem is that I am not sure about the definition of �Sociedad de Personas�, At the beginning I thought of it as a Company (Sociedad) whose shareholders are individuals (personas) and not other companies (personas jur�dicas). I also thought of it as a �de facto� partnership (non-incorporated company). Unfortunately not even the lawyers I know have been able to clarify this issue. If I had a clear understanding of the meaning I would probably be able come up with a fair translation. So far the only thing that is clear to me is that a �Sociedad de personas� (as opposed to a Sociedad de Capital) is a company in which the partners (not the capital) have more relevance; But how do I transmit that idea across in English with a single term? :

I don't quite understand what you need, maybe more context would be helpful to understand what you're looking for... I thought of a cooperative, but I'm not sure.
