Default employee injury

How would you ask a spanish worker how he injured his eye? We had a man come into our medical clinic today unaccompanied by anyone who speaks spanish. I finally got out of him that his eye was injured by a sliver of steel. Thanks for any help you can provide.

The response is right.

Only to help: you can ask "¿cómo se lastimó?". In the context of an accident (in the hand, the eye, the arm, the leg, etc.) the patient will understand the part of the body you are asking for. This phrase would be helpful for any situation.
