Unhappy El Director del Instituto Tecnologico....

Ok, I am trying to translate a Mex college transcript into English, but I don't know how to translate "Director".

Most US Institutes of Technology have a President, even community colleges have Presidents as the head of the whole academic entity, but in Mex these Tecnologicos don't have a board or committe as governance body.

They pretty much just have the Director, but it wouldn't sound ok/make sense in English to translate it as "the Director of the Mexico Institute of Technology" would it?

    Please Help...thank you much

Makes sense to me holylengua. I would think so since director in Spanish translates as director, manager or head and certainly director in English means the person in charge of an entity.

I should add that I am a native English speaker so you might want to get an opinion from a native Spanish speaker.

Hey! I'm from Argentina, so I'm not sure if it's the same in Mexico, but I've seen the word "headmaster", which would mean "Director". However I don't know if the context is right or not, I mean, I don't know if "headmaster" is used only for some certain places... But I think you could use that one...

    Hope I could help!

    Hi gise1984

Headmaster is a term used to describe the male principal of a school and therefore would not be used in place of director or president since those terms could be either male or female (headmistress would be the female equivalent); moreover, headmaster/headmistress are not terms normally used at the college, institute or university level.

    headˇmasˇter
    n. A man who is the principal of a school, usually a private school.
