It could mean many things but it most likely means Electronic File Transfer if it is accompanied by receipt of some sort.

Edited: Sorry I meant to say EFT = Electronic Funds Transfer.

¿me explico?

In Bank terms, that is a different thing.

A wire transfer is usually instantaneously and there are usually associated fees. Money comes out of your account the moment you push the button.

An EFT on the other hand is usually associated with a swipe of your ATM (debit) card at a merchant (grocery store, gas station, etc). There are usually no fees associated with ATM transactions. The money does not come out as fast as in a wire transfer. This is also called an ACH (Automatic Clearing house) transaction.

A transfer between your accounts in your same bank is not treated as EFTs or wire transfers. A transfer between your accounts in different banks is usually done via ACH unless you need the money ultra fast in chich case you would use a wire transfer.

ACH can only be used between banks in the US. For foreign banks you can use wire transfers or SWIFT transfers.

    Chapeau!
