Re: Certificado de Estudios - Studies Certificate
You're welcome Mauricio!:)
Something just occurred to me. Is this document an actual certificate, like a degree or diploma, or is it a certification from the school to another party that the student has completed the course of study? If it is a certificate, then what we have suggested is OK...if it is a statement from the school to another party, a prospective employer for example, it would be better to call it a Certification of Studies

My offer:
In the City of Asuncion, Republic of Paraguay, on the 4th day of MAY of 2009, Attorney NAME, General Secretary of the Universidad Americana (American University) Certifies that:
Mister
NAME, I.D.
NUMBER and RUA (Student Record Number)
NUMBER was admitted
to this academic institution in the year
YEAR , having
successfully completed the
required course of study in the field of
COMPUTER SCIENCE ENGINEERING and as recorded in our files, his grades are as expressed below:
Did you leave was in your offer on purpose or just by mistake? You first suggestion was to change it to got.
It really sounds more fluent now. Do you think a comma after "and, as recorded in our files, his grades are as expressed below:" is necessary as well to make it clearer?
Mauricio.-
Re: Certificado de Estudios - Studies Certificate
"Certificate of studies" flows better and sounds more natural.
I would suggest:
having taken the subjects of the [curriculum, oracademic program,] for the field of COMPUTER SCIENCE ENGINEERING and as recorded in our files, his grades are as expressed below:
Dennis
in Indiana

Is an actual Certificate from my University. I'll be using it for my scholarship applications.
Really interesting what you are pointing out. Thanks!
Mauricio.-

I don't think it was I who suggested got. I put was in on purpose...I don't like the sound of "got admitted". Yes, a comma after and would be more fluent I think.

Dennis,
Thanks for your suggestion. It makes sense the use of the preposition for as well as in, apparently for sounds better (at least for me).
About malla curricular, I'm still thinking... I'll do more research. Too many options! Probably all of them are fine.
Mauricio.-
Re: Certificado de Estudios - Studies Certificate
Just a note: "got admitted" is proper English and I don't mean to offend whoever suggested it. It is just my preference to use "was".
...and I also agree with penningdcp..."for" the field of...is fine...either way actually.
Good Luck on your scholarship applications Mauricio.
Re: Certificado de Estudios - Studies Certificate
Vicente! You suggested got, just look the history of the post. :p Or maybe I got it backwards, haha.
Thanks for your wishes!

JAJA...Now you are making me question my own English.:D
OK...I said "Substitute "was" for got and "to" for in.
In other words, use "was" in place of got...and "to" in place of in.
I think that's what I meant!!
Saludos!!

Now I got it! I used got firstly and you suggested was, but in the process got confused. Haha.:D
I'm doubting about the offer you suggested "having successfully completed the required course of study" in the original document does not say I successfully completed anything (of course I did, but they didn't express it like that). Wouldn't be faking a legal document?
Mauricio.-
