Default Portuguese and Cape Verdean Krioli

Does anybody know just how different or similar these two languages are?

It's a similar car as Haitian Creole, where the official "administrative" language in Haiti is French, but people speak Creole, which sounds like french (French-based creole language)
In Cape Verde, the official language is Portugues, but people speak a Portuguese-based creole language

Yeah, that part is clear, but I mean, just how similar are Portuguse and this creole? Like, is it Portuguese with a few differences in spelling or does it also contain words from other languages?

It is quite different. It's not just like a language flavor.

You should listen to Cesaria Evora's songs and you'll notice how different they are. I can understand songs in Brazilian Portuguese, but I have a harder time understanding her lyrics.
