Hello, new here
Hola Amigos!
I am new here and also learning spanish, I have had a couple of lessons and stuff like that, now my lessons has finished for now and I am trying to learn verbs and forming sentences and I was wondering if I post some attempted short sentences here and the translation I am looking for would people correct them, or is there another place for it on this forum? I'll post two attempted sentences here and if this is the wrong place I will delete them. Gracias! (practising on the verb Andar (walk)) Yo ando alrededor de la cuidad para el trabjo I walk around the city for work Yo vigilo tu andas I watch you walk. Can anyone let me know if I am on the right track with these? I'd appreciate any help. |

I was only using an online dictionary, I think I will have to get a proper dictionary. And I notice you use "por" instead of "alrededor de". "por" means across/through if I am not mistaken which makes sense. I am so used to English that I think around (alrededor de) is too literal I guess. The second one was totally screwy though, the order is all wrong, the words esh I need a lot of work, lol. But I am glad I seem to be using the correct verbs so far. (Yo) voy caminando al trabajo (You can drop the pronoun YO)
I walk around the city for work Te miro caminar I watch you walk. I think it sounds a bit more natural. |

if u want to say that you walk to work, you can say: camino por la ciudad para ir al trabajo, or paso por la ciudad para ir al trabajo
if you meant you walked through the city due to your job, you may say: ando/camino por la ciudad por el trabajo. regarding the other sentece, if you add a comma: i wacht, you walk it means = yo miro/observo, tu caminas. Otherwise it is: te observo caminar or te miro caminar. |

The English is a little confusing and if your English structure is not readily understood it will be harder to tell if your Spanish translation is accurate. Bad English=bad Spanish if you know what I mean. A better way to write the English sentence would be: In my work, I walk around the city, if that is what you meant, or I walk around the city looking for work, if that was your intent. In any case, we will all be happy to help you so don't hesitate to ask. All of us had the same problems when we began to learn. I'm new here myself and the people here are muy buena gente and are not only extremely helpful but very knowledgeable as well!! vicente |

Yes I meant walking around the city is part of my work (I was trying to figure sentences using andar)
