How bad is this translation??

How bad is this translation? I did it on one of the no-cost translation sites.

If you were reading this on a website, would you immediately hit the Back button because the grammer is so bad?

Or is it passable enough that you would overlook the bad grammer and read the page? This is assuming, of course, that you were interested in the subject enough to come to the website in the first place.

I need to know if I am wasting my time with these no-cost translation websites.

I'd hit the back button at once. Though I can understand what the author means, it's very annoying to read throughout the article. As a native Spanish speaker, I'd feel that the webmaster doesn't respect my language enough as to pay for a decent translation.

You can find out by yourself how bad your free translation is. I wrote up for you the three first paragraphs in good Spanish. Translate them to English using the same service, and you'll have an idea of how it sounds to a native speaker.

I absolutely agree with Moni, you wouldn't think of posting such thing, even less if you're planning to attrack possible buyers or something. I think no cost translations work just for individual words, but they don't work with grammar, even less with style.
Besides, you can find some good translators that won't charge you that much for a general translation.

Thanks for the comments Carolina and Moni. I pretty much expected that this was the situation but I am glad to have it confirmed by native Spanish speakers.

Moni, I did what you suggested and you are absolutely right. Your three spanish paragraphs translated back to English produced very inferior results. If I went to a webpage and saw English that bad, I would definitely leave immediately.

Oh, well. I can't afford to pay a professional translator so I was hoping that maybe I could use the no-cost software and do it myself. No such luck.

Peter, my advice: remember that a marketing cost like this is not an expense but quite the reverse...an investment!!!

Thanks, Gentle, for the advise. You are right. I guess I'm just not sure whether the return on investment is there.

I have a little English language website with about 160 pages full of vacation ideas. It makes me about $600/month from Google and other Pay Per Click ads on the pages. When I found out that Google could put Spanish language ads on Spanish language websites, I started thinking that maybe I should have my site translated.

But a professional translation website quoted me ~$12,000.

I can't possibly afford that.

On the other hand, I am well aware of the growing use and poularity of the Spanish language here in the U.S. I just can't help thinking that I am missing out on a opportunity. But I have no ties to the Spanish community and I really do not have a good concept of the potential demand for my content in Spanish.

It is very difficult for me to justify a $12,000 expense, even if I could afford it.

Anyway, thanks for listening and commenting. I'll keep thinking about it and look for a solution.

Peter, I'm new to this site, so I don't know how much information I'm authorised to give. But let me tell you that you will find a variety of prices when it comes to a translation budget.
There are three major translation web sites you can visit and post your job offer, and receive translation bids. You can choose among the cheapest ones.
I'll ask and let you know if I can name those sites here.
If you are patient you will sure find someone who will translate your site for an affordable price.
Meanwhile, why don't you just search for translations sites on any search engine, and try and publish your job offer?
