Default ironical used of word retired

I'm uncertain about the tense and the idiom of the ironical use of the word "retired" in the sense of "done away with" in the phrase "retired with prejudice". In other words, how might a Spanish speaker say "he had to be retired with prejudice"?

This phrase occurs in a novel.

It seems to mean "El tuvo que deshacerse de sus prejuicios"; but as joselas posted before, we would appreciate a bit more context.
