Use of the Preview feature
Hi All! I would like you all to help me out gathering all advantages and disadvantages when proofreading the target text with using TradosīPreview feature, and the chance to do so before reformatting (DTP) the file.
Let me look on the bright side and start with an advantage: real time TM update as we can easily switch from the Preview to the bilingual screen. ;)
Re: Use of the Preview feature
Hi!
I agree with the real time TM update advantage. It's quite useful to get rid of typos and any other grammatical mistakes, so that your TM is "clean". But the problem is that some times the spell checker from TagEditor doesn't run well (or not at all); it's not really trustworthy. Anyway, I think you still need to have a final QA after DTP, many mistakes result from the reformatting process or even the import of the target text into the final file.
Re: Use of the Preview feature
Yeah, I agree with you about the TM update, this way you can always rely on the TM.
Another advantage may be, in Word files, that you can ask resources who donīt work with trados to edit or proofread the MS Word file with track changes. This way you get both benefits, the TM update plus working on Trados with people who donīt. (itīs the case for specialists in some highly specific field, etc)
But... you need to be extremely carefull about explaining how it works and ask them not to touch the tags. Otherwise, youīll spend more time fixing the file than editing! ;)
any other comments?
Re: Use of the Preview feature
Sorry, I forgot! I agree with Nadia about having a last QA always before DTP, lots of things might get lost in the conversion process.
Re: Use of the Preview feature
In addition to the TM update, I would also point out CONTEXT. Tag Editor tends to distribute segments in ways that are sometimes difficult to follow. With the preview, you can actually see where the segment comes from.
