My friend Jorge told me "Tenia que definir la primera palabra que aparece en el diccionario y me abataté tanto que me fui de ahí". What did he mean?
"Abatatar" means to chicken out :)
As Maximiliano said, abatatar is an Spanish expression that means when someone is scared of doing something :D
Oh okay!! That makes sense. Thanks!
Does anybody know where the terms come from?
Alguien sabe de dónde viene esa expresión? Porqué abatatar y no apapar?
My friend is from Argentina. So I'm guessing it's used as slang in that country. I'm not sure if other Spanish speaking countries use it as well though.
Santiagop, trate de buscarlo.. Pero realmente no encontre de donde puede provenir el significado de esa palabra..
Well Adam, abatatar is a Portuguese term as well, but the meaning is to make a shape like a potato.
In fact Portuguese and Spanish have lots of similar words but with different meanings.
Make a shape like a potato?? They have a verb for that in Spanish and Portuguese? How very strange!
