Spanish for "tearing through"
Hola,
Estuve trabajando con una traducción para un zoológico, y encontré esto: "Video Surfaces of a Rare Florida Panther Tearing Through an Audubon Sanctuary"
Esta es la traducción que conseguí: "Aparece video de rara pantera de Florida que irrumpe en un santuario de Audubon".
Tengo dos preguntas:
1/ "Rara" para "Rare" suena correcto?
2/ Para" Tearing through", pensé en "destrozar" o "destruir".
Que opinan?:D
Re: Spanish for "tearing through"
Inasmuch as "tearing through" in this context means running wildly through the sanctuary as in, "the kids were tearing through the house", what about corriendo violentamente?
Re: Spanish for "tearing through"
Hi Vicente, in the video, the panther isn't really "running wildly", but is building its own path breaking things here and there. Maybe "...que se abre el camino...", what do you think?
Re: Spanish for "tearing through"
AH, OK nablym...haha...so he was literally tearing through the jungle.
"...que se abre el camino..." o "abriendo/haciendo un sendero"
Re: Spanish for "tearing through"
Where are all the native speakers when we need them...haha:D
Re: Spanish for "tearing through"
I think they are tearing through the website looking for an answer;)
Re: Spanish for "tearing through"
Re: Spanish for "tearing through"
Some of the definitions of romper are to cut through, smash through, smash down, break down ...etc.
Maybe romper ... rompiendo el monte para hacer un sendero...que opinas?
Re: Spanish for "tearing through"
Romper sounds too extreme i think. Destrozar sounds more accurate to me, but again, I'm not a native spanish speaker. A spanish translator told me "...que se abre el camino haciendo destrozos..."
I feel like giving up with that one, none of the translations I got were good.:(
Re: Spanish for "tearing through"
Let me check a little further before you give up.
P.S. OK. A native speaking friend agrees that destrozar will work.
Other ideas: if you insert "ripping" in place of tearing then "que se rasga a través del santuario" or "fue rasgando un camino a través del santuario"
Re: Spanish for "tearing through"
For "rare" I'd go with "inusual"
Inusual pantera de Florida irrumpe/se abre camino/ ingresa en un Santurio Audubon
La idea es que entró al santurio "a los piques"... acometió, avanzó, pasó raudamente. Creo que lo mejor es "irrumpe"
Re: Spanish for "tearing through"
Hola Mem286, necesitabamos la opinón de una nativa. Creo que estamos todos de acuerdo: "irrumpe" es lo "más correcto".:D
Re: Spanish for "tearing through"
If mem286 says it, you can put it in the bank.;)

Sin dudarlo... ;)
Thanks amigo Vicente! :)
Re: Spanish for "tearing through"
I'm not one to question mem286 but does inusual have the same emphasis and meaning as rare, as in a very rare and endangered species, which the Florida panther is with only about 100 left in the Eastern United States.

I guess you have a good point if you consider that... "raro" has more enphasis in that case, meaning "very uncommon and scarce"... On the other hand, "inusual" (in sp) means sth that is NOT expected... and the Florida panther in that place was more than that!! lol... Thanks Vince!
