favorite movie of all time
Hello all!
I thought it's time to start a classic thread for a change:
Which is your all-time favorite movie?
the one movie you can watch over an over again, know almost every line by heart and never grow tired of it?
Personally, I have a few of those :-) 'High Fidelity' is one of them.
Let me hear yours!

Re: favorite movie of all time
I used to love - and still do :
THE PARENT TRAP with Haley Mills
it's very old ...
but then,
so am I.

De Broca's The King of Hearts with Alan Bates (circa mid-60s) stole my heart in college and is still one of my favorites. To me it's more than just an anti-war film. It exposed a lot of the insanity in our modern bureaucratic society. If you've never seen it - well - you must!

Sense and Sensibilty!!! I think I've seen it a hundred times and I still love it!

Re: favorite movie of all time
Hi!
Maybe they won't be the favourite movies of all time, but I still watch them all the time :D
Les rivières pourpres or The Crimson Rivers, with one of my favourite French actors, Jean Reno; and I also love all the French comedy movies such as Mission Cléopâtre with Gérard Depardieu, Christian Clavier and many others.
Wuthering Heights is another movie that it will always be one of my favourites, with "Sir" Ralph Fiennes and "Mme." Juliette Binoche...

Casablanca, of course... and Lord of the rings
They kill me both!:p

Re: favorite movie of all time
Mmmm It's a hard choice. My favourite movies are, in general, not very good movies hehe, but I'll name a few (I can't just choose one, sry)
- Karate Kid. I grew up with a VHS copy of this movie, and I've seen it a looooot of times. I almost knew every dialogue
- Dawn of the Dead (the remake). The best zombie movie ever. The greatest ending ever. I watch it every time it's on TV
- Bloodsport. The greatest marcial arts movie ever (sry Bruce Lee, your movies were pretty good too). Van Damme acts like he's paralized, but the fighting is incredible during the whole movie.
Did you see? None of these won an Academy Award :P, but I watch them every time I can. There are tons of better movies, but the feeling is not the same ^^

Re: favorite movie of all time
Naaaa. the greatest martial arts movies ever are Chinese or Japanese, like The 7 samurais, The 36 chambers of Shaolin, Drunken master...
Van Damme...really??

Re: favorite movie of all time
Veronica,
Jean-Claude Van Damme = muscles from Brussels
= a compatriot of mine !
and even apart from that,
he ranks among the best in his category.
Grtz.

Re: favorite movie of all time
He ranks among the best martial artists, but still I don't like the movies...
I think one's favorite all time movies are the ones from our childhood. I used to watch Starwars, Back to the future, Indiana Jones, Beauty and the beast and Aladdin over and over again. We played a game with my sister: one said a line from a movie and the other had to guess which movie and which character said it.
See you!

Re: favorite movie of all time
It sounds like a fun game Vero :)

Another fan of The Lord of the Rings.
When I was a child, Star Wars trapped me. But of course, the movies weren't a masterpiece of art.
The Lord of the rings took its place as the fondest memory. Most of the credit is the use of original ideas of John Howe about the Middle Earth.

Funny thing: did you know that "The 7 Samurais" was the inspiration for "The magnificent Seven" which is the movie that inspired the producers of "The A Team" to create the series? And somehow it all leads to "Los simuladores" which makes one realize some good ideas can lead to very bad ones...
-
Re: favorite movie of all time
If I had to say one, I would have to say Matrix: the first two are excellent... they are sooo good that one can even forgive the producers for spoiling the series with the bad half of the third one... but anyways: history, philosophy, literature, religion, technology. You can find whatever you want in those movies...
(PS: this restriction of selecting only one movie is quite tough... as Borges used to say: how can you compare books? there is no better book than another... there are bad movies, though)

Re: favorite movie of all time
7 samurais!!! I love it ! :D

What an old movie! My father recently bought the DVD and I still hadn't seen it. It was in fact the inspiration to MANY movies. Akira Kurosawa rules!!!
I agree with Gabriel: Matrix (only the first one, for me) is one of my favorite movies of all time. It blew my mind up when I first saw it... shame on Wachosky Bros. for making the other two =P
-
Re: favorite movie of all time
Please .. when you see seven samurais you will change your opinion .... :)
-
Re: favorite movie of all time
Totally agree...the Matrix is only the first one...the other two I'd rather forget!!
7 samurais is a real classic. Black and white, from the 50s, lasts like 3 hours, and still you can't stop watching it.
Unlike, for instance 2001 Space Odyssey, which just became old and boring...
-
Re: favorite movie of all time
7 Samurais it's an old movie it's true... but for today movies .. Matrix (1st) it's the best. :D

Re: favorite movie of all time
By far, best movie I never get tired of is Groundhog Day with Bill Murray (1993).

Re: favorite movie of all time
Ohhhh the Groundhog day!!!! I love that movie too!!!
I even remember the song he always hears when he wakes up and ends up smashing the radio hahahah! it's a great movie. And I love the message that things don't change until you change for good.

Re: favorite movie of all time

No, that's not it :D. That one is Moonstruck with Cher and Nicholas Cage.
In Spanish it was "Hechizo de Luna".
The Groundhog Day (Hechizo del Tiempo) is Bill Murray and Andie McDowell.
Bill Murray (Phil) is a news reporter who has to go to a boring town to cover The Groundhog Day (the major wakes a groundhog, also named Phil, and if the animal looks up it's going to be a season with good weather).
Phil hates the town and the event and wants to leave right away, but a snow storm keeps them in the town overnight.
Turns out that the next day he wakes up only to find that it's the groundhog day all over again. He is the only one in town who remembers that all this already happened, and when the day is over and he falls asleep, he wakes up in the groundhog day again, and again, and again.
The movie is great. When he realizes that no matter what he does, he re lives it all over again, he tries everything. Robs a bank, commits suicide... apparently there's no way to break the spell.

Re: favorite movie of all time
It's hard to pick just one movie, but I guess The Godfather would be one of my favorite movies, I keep watching it every time it's on TV, and I kind of know it by heart.
Sorry guys, I fell asleep with Matrix, not my kind of movie

Historias Mínimas
Argentina

Re: favorite movie of all time
Hola analaura!
Nunca escuche de esa película... de que se trata? es nueva?
-
Re: favorite movie of all time
Es del 2002.
Argentina.

Re: favorite movie of all time
Suena muy interesante! Sobre todo porque fui un par de veces a San Julián.
Gracias por tu recomendación Analaura!

Re: favorite movie of all time
Alguna otra para recomendar? ;)

Re: favorite movie of all time
Historias Mínimas es un ejemplo de una película de bajísimo presupuesto y que te llega al corazón. Una "joyita" del cine Argentino.
Recomiendo también "Herencia" con Rita Cortese, de la misma época más o menos, 2001. Excelente.
