I tend to agree as well. I haven't seen Belgium play yet but the U.S. has managed to get this far in spite of some real injuries...not those stupid flops...so they have proven themselves to be gutty. It's possible.
P.S. I wonder where our friend exxcéntrica has gone? She hasn't been here since Spain lost. Do you suppose Spain is in a state of mourning?
With no bad teams left, each game has to be played.
Belgium certainly has a lot of first quality players who make one very good team.
Pretty much like the neighbouring countries (Germany, Holland and France)
we offer less "Samba" but more output.
In Spain, soccer is a religion.
From world-champion to immediate elimination is hard to bear.
So yes, they must be in a state of mourning and numb with disbelief.
Es una lástima.
Anyway, we will all be watching TV next Tuesday ...
Frank.
Frank
Here's a humorous article on why USA CANNOT LOSE to Belgium that you might enjoy.;)
Y! SPORTS
Vicente,
I enjoyed the article, especially the Brussels sprouts !
Very funny.
But... he laughs best who laughs last...:D:D:D
Frank.
I'm relatively new to this game and I still don't understand the timing system.
I was watching the Costa Rica/Greece game and CR was leading 1-0 with 89.59 left and I was all excited that we were about to win, then the clock turns 90.00 and keeps on running!!! I thought this game was 90 minutes and I knew that they can somehow add minutes (arbitrarily, in my opinion) but the TV clock had expired with no indication of extra time.
How can anybody follow a game to the end when they have no idea how long the officials are going to let it run!!!?
It isn't over yet but I'm a little upset!!:mad::D
NOTE: All's well that ends well!!
Vicente,
I agree with you.
The problem is a result from the past when some players made a habit of gaining time.
Especially Italian teams were reputed to do that once they were one goal ahead.
Normally this extra time is clearly indicated before the 90th minute.
Which they sometimes fail to do here.
I don't approve of extra time at all. A game should be 90 minutes sharp.
If players try to gain time, they should be punished with a free kick against them.
Groetjes,
Frank.
Hi Frank.
I sort of understand the reasoning behind the extra time but what I fail to understand is why it would not be shown on the TV clock. There must have been tens of millions of people like me watching the game throughout the world. I was totally confused for a few minutes when the game continued. I guess I immediately knew that there had to have been extra time, but how much? There was only a very short span of time before they showed it on the screen, but that short interval was agonizingly long for a fan who thought the game had been won.:(
We have a "delay of game" penalty in American football. I suppose the criteria are similar but the penalty is assessed in distance (loss of yardage), not a time adjustment.
As passionate as soccer fans are I am a little surprised that there have not been cases of the officials being assaulted for adding time to a game.;)
Regards
Vicente
Frank has a good sense of humor.
CONGRATULATIONS Frank!!! You get the last laugh!!;) Well done by your team!.
I can see it coming. Costa Rica will defeat Belgium in the Final.:o
-
Vicente,
thanks for the congrats. The US was a fantastic opponent.
We could meet Costa Rica in the semifinal.
But it's hard to tell who Belgium will have to play in the finals...
Frank.
All the 8 teams in quarters are candidates, Belgium will be a tough match for Argentina.
The US and Belgium game really picked up at the end. Quite the match! I´m proud of the boys back home. Now if Belgium takes out Argentina as well I´ll feel less bad about losing the match. Although, I want to see an Argentina vs Brazil final match. With Argentina taking it home obviously...
Vicente,
too bad it is the end of the World Cup for Belgium and Costa Rica.
but it is not the end of the world...

Frank.
Frank,
It's not the destination but the ride...and it was a lot of fun while it lasted. :D

Both teams did indeed do well and both countries should be proud of them.
As for Costa Rica, it might have been a good thing that they did not advance. Considering how wildly they celebrated last week, I'm not sure the country could survive another victory. :D:D (I'm kidding of course...sorta:))
I feel terrible for Brazil. They lost Neymar for the rest of the world cup. I don´t see them beating Germany without him...
I also heard that D Maria is out of the tournament. That´s not good for Argentina.
Although, Argentina is playing Holland on it´s independence day. Could be what they need to push on through to the finals...
Did anyone watch the Brazil Germany game? That was brutal. How can you be down 5-0 in the first 30 minutes of the game?? That was a real shocker!
Brutal is right! I think the Brazilians went into shock after the second goal and never came out of it. The game was basically over in less than 20 minutes. I felt for the fans. There was one little boy just crying his eyes out when they went down 5-0. Just an unbelievable defeat.
Today's your day Amayo.:)
... and the final day for a South American team to live up to our expectations. Go Argentina!!
German didn´t draw with the US, they beat them 1-0. However, they did draw 2-2 with Ghana. If you look at who Brazil had to play to get to where they were it makes a little more sense.
Will not be an easy game for sure, but the "Argies" can definitely take on the Germans. History repeating itself:
Looks like it's our turn to take home the trophy!
Argentina arrives at the final game as the clear underdog. They will try to not get steamrolled by the Germans given their latest feat against Brazil. It is going to be an interesting game. Sometimes the race or trophy is not won by the fastest or the strongest team but by the team that can play their cards well. We shall see on Sunday who has their best game.
Argentina was a worthy finalist. My congratulations to the champion!
We almost had it!!! It would have been glorious...
Did anyone see the German teams dance they preformed when they arrived to Germany?
