How do you spell this word?
Hi, all. We were recently in Playa del Carmen and one of the waiters made a cute little bug out of palm leaves. He went up to my brother and poked him in the belly with the "toy" (like you would do when tickling a baby) and said, "Kadeek a deek!" Or something similar. It was hilarious, we loved it, but now we want to know what it means and how to spell it. Can you help?
Re: How do you spell this word?
have no idea what you are talking about
Re: How do you spell this word?
Playa del Carmen is in Quintana Roo where Mayan dialects are still spoken to this day. Perhaps the waiter was either saying the name of the bug -usually they make crickets with the palm leaves- or something related to giving your brother the toy.
There are 29 different Mayan dialects spoken today in the region comprised by Yucatán, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador. Even with an appropriate dictionary I could not find it for you.
Sorry I could not help.

A good excuse to hit the road back to Playa del Carmen! :-))))

@gentle
What an excellent idea! All for the love of improving our languages skills, of course.

I really think that was just the waiter's way of making some sort of tickling noise ... kind of like "kootchie-koo" or something to that effect.
