Existe expresión en Inglés para referirse al colmo de algo?
Podrìa ser algo como " this is last straw" o "HShe has gone too far"
Tambièn hay una expresiòn que es " to top it off" = encima.... para colmo....
Omiti el THE "This is THE last straw"
How about ....
"To top it all off .... "
Digamos: " He cannot leave now being his wife pregnant, that would be the last straw"
" no puede irse ahora q su mujer esta embarazada, eso serìa el colmo. Si tomamos en cuenta que ya haya tenido otros comportamientos incorrectos.
"" He cannot leave now being his wife pregnant, that would be the last straw" ....... "eso seria el lìmite"
"He wants to leave her, to top it off she is pregnant" "y encima està embarazada - para colmo està embarazada"
Me alegro Salvador
Muy buena tu explicación diegonel. Ahora ya me saqué la duda. Gracias!
De nada Jonatane!
Jonatane, Salvador,
Encontrè otra frase "it is the height of something"
Jonatane, Salvador,
Encontrè otra expresiòn : "it is the height of something"
Muy interesante! También pude encontrar la palabra "summit".
It is the height of stupidity/ it is the height of laziness.
Jonatane is also right: it the summit of his ambition
Saludos amigos.:) Summit is technically correct BUT I've never heard summit used in that expression. Height is commonly used.
Another one. epitome of something: the epitome of arrogance; the epitome of beauty
Then there is ultimate: the ultimate insult; the ultimate achievement
Final: the final blow. the final slap in the face
Another good one: to top it all off: "Things went badly from the start and to top it all off she told me I was ugly."
I LIKE THESE ONES = "the epitome of arrogance; the epitome of beauty" "the final blow. the final slap in the face"
I have heard the expression "at the height of his career (battle, etc) " but I just did not see how it could mean "el colmo de".
but I guess it could mean that if you have
"at the height of laziness (etc)" or something similar.
After I read it, it made perfect sense but it would just not be my first choice unless I am writing an essay or book or something rather formal. I would use "to top it all off" in an informal setting.
I completely agree. I figured we were just looking for alternative or similar phrases and I threw out a few. There's always more than one way to skin a cat, right?:D
