Sorry, but in spanish, al least in Europe, COMER el desayuno is INCORRECT. It is said TOMAR el desayuno or DESAYUNAR. never COMER
Bueno, if you read the original post the lesson was to correctly conjugate the verb comer in the phrase comer el desayuno in the preterite.
Escribe la forma correcta del verbo en el pretérito en la oración en español:
Yo __________ el desayuno a las ocho. (comer)
So do we help with the request or tell BNG to go back and tell his/her Spanish teacher that you can't say "comer el desayuno"
(and explain that he/she knows this because she was doing the homework assignment with the help of a bunch of professional translators.) :D
BTW...Thank you exxcéntrica for the grammar correction (acostumbrado a)

Your choice for the verb does not sound good for me. Eat your breakfast as "come tu desayuno" would be too literal. The verb used in Spanish is "tomar" ("Yo tomo mi desayuno a las ocho").
Besides, instructions at the beginning of the exercise were clear about the use of the "past tense". (Therefore the Present Simple tense does not sound correct).
