carrera
Guys!
I hava a question, or rather a doubt. Here in my country, we use CARRERA in two ways, "to develop one's career after you graduate" and the studies that train somobody to practise their profession, whether it be, Accounting, Medicine, Law, etc. While studying, you can say, "ESTOY HACIENDO LA CARRERA DE MEDICINA" So How do you say Carrera with the latter meaning?
COURSE OF STUDY?
only COURSE ?
Thank you all.

Re: carrera
Probably just:
I am studying medicine.
I am studying to be a doctor.
To express that idea in English, you probably wouldn't use the word career.

Re: carrera
What about the word 'faculty' like it was used on the website of the university of Toronto here: http://www.facmed.utoronto.ca/site4.aspx, if so we would say 'the faculty of medicine', for me it's very similar to CARRERA DE MEDICINA. :)

Re: carrera
Coffeefreak and Mariaklec:
I have found the word and it is degree course. This is what I want to express.
THANKS A LOT

Re: carrera
Faculty refers to the teachers/professors of a school or program, not the program itself. (Staff comprises the employees who are not teachers/professors). So, you would not say "I am studying the faculty of medicine."
Degree course refers to an academic program that leads to a degree. I guess you could say "doing a degree course in medicine" or "doing a program in medicine" but since the usual way of expressing this is "studying medicine," I would wonder if it was something other than a full medical degree rather than "med school."
Maybe that's what you're looking for: Med School is an informal way of saying a university program that trains doctors. It's common to say "She's in med school."

Re: carrera
Mariaklec,
What You Wrote Is Clear, That's Why The Word Faculty Or Just I Am Studying.... Doesn't Go With The Context I Need.
I Am Translating A Transcript Record. And There Is A Part Of The Certificate That Reads:
Plan/carrera Xxxxx
That's Why I Got To The Conclusion That : Plan Of Study/degree Course Should Be The Best Options So Far.
As Usual , Thanks You Maria!!!

Re: carrera
Oops, sorry! :)
I thought you were trying to say "Estoy haciendo la carrera de medicina."
I agree with you now that I know the context.
