Hola Gente!
Como podria traducir libre y cuatrimestral en cuestion de materias cursadas en forma libre y cuatrimestral. La verdad es que no les doy mi version porque no tengo idea sobre todo con respecto a libre.

Si es una materia que cursas libre, podría ser: 'studied without attending to classes', o directamente 'sat for the final test'.
He visto por ahí la expresión 'challenge the course' pero creo que es usada cuando sumás puntos para evitar ir a clases, no porque tu lo elijas...

Una materia que tiene una duración cuatrimestral sería: 'four-monthly subject'. No se si hay otra forma de decirlo. :confused:

Or maybe a class that you can place out of by demonstrating proficiency on a placement test (or a proficiency test)?

Could cuatrimestral refer to a school with trimesters?
