"Lawn signs"?
I've heard and used 'cartelas' or 'anuncios' but I've never really been sure or comfortable. Today, I read a politician's web site that obviously used an electronic, computerized system that used 'signos'.... OMG, I nearly croaked. But it leaves me with the question, what's the proper or best word to use for political "lawn signs"?

In Spanish, lawn sign = "propaganda". But is good to say that in our jargon, this word acquires the general meaning of "publicidad", meaning something designed to attract public attention but only with commercial proposes, not political. Therefore, the best way of saying it is "propaganda política", and mark the difference between advertisement and lawn sign, which is pretty confusing in our language.
Anyway I'm still in high school, but I'm pretty sure I came up with the correct translation =)

propaganda politica is the right translation to define a political lawn sign
