Pronunciation of Matriz?
Which syllable of "matriz" (a methematical array) should receive the accent?
As I understand Spanish pronunciation rules, it should be "triz," but someone whose Spanish is better than mine insists on "ma."
Is this an exception?
Could someone point me toward a definitive authority?

matriz takes the accent in triz!
this word is "aguda", takes the accent (for pronunciation) in the last syllable (other ex. salir, comer, tapiz) but it does not takes the accent because it does not end in vowel/ N / S. examples: canción, país, allá, etc.
hope it helps!

Some professions have their jargon, and careers are not exception. Some mathematicians say "intérvalo" instead of "intervalo", and some physicians say "sindrome" instead of "síndrome". I wouldn't be surprised if in some country people call "mátriz" what is called "matriz".

it would be "mahtrees" (or something like that)

Hello! I think the syllable "triz" should receive the accent, at least in Latin America. Maybe they pronounce it differently in other parts of the world.
