I have always understood the term to mean a man who sought out numerous women in order to exploit them, i.e., a man living off the earnings or gifts of a woman, especially a younger man supported by an older woman in return for his sexual attentions and companionship.
I have heard the term "chivo" used in this manner.
Origin: French, masculine derivative of gigolette woman of the streets or public dance halls, probably ultimately derivative of Middle French giguer to frolic
Gigolo
does not need the "tilde"
Of course Vicente and myself know very well what a gigolo is (it's every little boy's forbidden dream).
And there's that famous song by Louis Prima (1956) that has withstood time.
Regards from Belgium,
Frank.
Hahaha Frank! You show up at the damnedest times!;)
Did you ever get to live that dream? Unfortunately, I didn't. It always seemed to be the other way around for me...but that was not alwaysl bad.
Hi Vicente,
little boy's dreams are childish...
't was just a little joke
and it's nice to be in touch again !
Frank.

gigolo:
nom masculin
(de gigue, jambe)
Familier.
Votre formule mathématique me semble bien exacte.
Bonne journée !
Frank.
Bonjour Reminder! Bonjour Frank!...or as we say 'round here: HOWDY!;)
I tried to decipher what Reminder wrote and I am hesitantly guessing that she(?) found another definition of gigolo that has to do with life style and travel? Could you translate it for me, please.
We already knew that Reminder has mastered English and Spanish and it would appear that she(?) has a pretty good handle on French as well.:D
PS: I put the ? on "she" because I was recently embarrassed to learn, after all these years, that Gentle is not a she but a he. It now occurs to me that "reminder" is also gender neutral. I hope I have not been wrong again:(
Vicente, caro amigo
meaning : Gigolo = (easy lifestyle) + (determined to never work at all)

All these languages ...
do you know that in Antwerp (where I live) more than 150 different languages are spoken nowadays, this is true !
I can't even name 150 languages !
but then...
I'm just a gigolo...
Cheerio !
Frank.
~
PS. I'm a HE
I've never had any doubt about you Frank! So am I, by the way.:D
That's very interesting. That's an awful lot! Do you mean that there are 150 languages that are widely spoken in the city...that would be a communication nightmare...or is it that there are that many known to be spoken at different levels or places. Do you have a lot of ethnic enclaves throughout Antwerp?
How did you come up with that figure? I bet New York City would have a pretty high number as well. Antwerp is your capital verdad?
Vicente,
I cannot retrace where I read about these 150 languages,
but official documents state that there are between 170 and 180 different nationalities residing in Antwerp (city).
Twenty years back, this was not the case.
The main language in Antwerp is Flemish, next there's French and English.
Brussels is our capital, Antwerp is our main port.
Hey, I sound like Wikipedia !
Frank.
