Default Help with trados trial (TMs), please!

Hello,

I'm hoping someone can please help me. I'm considering getting trados soon, and am trying out the free 1 month trial. It took me forever to figure out how to download the program, which I finally figured out. I tried the tutorial, but am a little confused.

The tutorial refers to existing tms, but I didn't understand how to add a tm. I don't mean to sound ignorant, but is a tm the same as a glossary? If I'm not provided with a tm or glossary by my client, is it best to create a one before starting the translation? With SDLX Trados 2006, will the program pull terms from a glossary, or do I need to get multiterm extract seperately?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Existing TMs can be easily imported/exported.
If you have a txt-file that was created with Trados Workbench (let’s say by another colleague) and you want to use it, then you chose File>Import from the Trados Workbench menu and browse looking for the txt-file. Glossaries are usually created with Multiterm.
The tutorial surely contains detailed information.

Question

Thank you Reny, I appreciate the info! Could you or someone tell me how to create a TM in the workbench before starting my translation, or how to use one created in MS Word or Excel? Some of the instructions in the tutorial are clear, and others are extremely confusing to me! Thanks in advance!

Default Tm

Hi! Whenever you want to start translating a document using trados, and if you do not have any TM already created by some other translator, you should create an empty TM for your document -if you do not create a new TM Trados will not start working-.
In order to create a TM, you open Trados workbench, you go to "File" - "New", you then select the source and target language and then you press "Create". It gives you the option to choose a name for your TM and to choose where to save it. Once you write your TM's name, you press "Save" and that's it! You have created your new TM and you can start using trados.

Hope this helps!

Question Importing word or excel TMs

Hi Nadia, and thank you!

I have another question, how do I import word or excel TMs? Is it easier to create new ones in trados? Thanks,
