You are absolutely correct. Although I suspect that the man meant the word as an insult, that is only MY opinion and I could be wrong. Susan should tell her friend that there are varying opinions here and let her friend decide based on her knowledge of the circumstances. vicente |

I spoke to a friend in Mexico and she says the word does not exist there, so ¿quien sabe?.
Now I'm sort of in agreement with islasunflower. Maybe he said idiota and she just didn't hear him well. I say we have Susan and her friend go find the guy and ask him what he said and what he meant, then come back and tell us so I can sleep at night. vicente |

Hi my friends, nice to meet you again.
Looking for the misterious word "JOTA" i've found out some other meanings: In Colombia means " an infinitesimally small bit", but don't know if this could help when is referring to a woman. Anyway, here's the link http://www.bartleby.com/68/14/5314.html In another search i've found out that in Spanish could be a greeting and other things that don't seem getting the point in this situation. The link is the following: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=jota Hope this can help ya...i think the greetings is what your friend recieved. Hasta luego. Ita

hi, bonitamorena. this should be in a different thread, since it has no connection with the above. anyway, the word is "bazofia" and you can find it in the DRAE. it is basically something awful, disgusting -mainly food, but it can also be applied to a painting, for example, a movie, etc., or to a person (it's not nice at all, unless it's understood it's a joke). ![]() |

My apologies. I did not realize it must be in a different thread, but thanks for the answer. This is a great forum. I expect to improve my Spanish greatly from posting here. |

I agree with Vicente, we don't have a sentence to provide context, but we do know the situation and I don't think he wanted to dance. Whether it means ******* or not, I don't think it was something good.
