I don't know in Guatemala, but in Mexico "covacha" means "cueva". Probably it has the same meaning due to Geographical reasons
.

And in Argentina, if someone lives in a "covacha", he/she is living in a hovel.

I found this definition, but it might not be what you're looking for
Hope it helps though Covacha Poyo de adobes que en tambos o postas y hospitales sirve de cama nada blanda y menos limpia.

La Real Academia de la Lengua Española says:
1. Cueva pequeña 2. Vivienda o aposento pobre, incómodo, oscuro, pequeño. 3. trastero. 4. perrera (‖ caseta del perro). 5. Tienda donde se venden comestibles, legumbres, etc. One of this should apply to Guatemala... I believe is the second one...small, dark, unconmfortable house (or any place for living with those characteristics) http://buscon.rae.es/draeI/SrvltCons...3&LEMA=covacha if you need more info |

I'm Guatemalan....covacha means a small poor house. Usually made from mud bricks and hay. Here's an example of a Guatemalan might say.
"No tengo dinero ni carro, pero mi covachita me mantiene sano" "I don't have money or a car, but my little house always keeps me safe" |
