Default I am looking for lesson books for Latin American Spanish

    Hi,

I just ordered a few "Practice Makes Perfect" Spanish books.

The only problem is that it seems like they are for Spain Spanish...

I have also ordered Rosetta Stone's Latin American Spanish version.

I am wondering if it is a waste of time to use the books I ordered, or if Spain Spanish is close enough to Latin American Spanish to use them?

If not, what books can I get that would be good for learning Latin American (Peruvian) spanish?

I am teaching myself spanish and I want to have books in addition to my Rosetta Stone.

    Thanks

    Why?

The main thing is to learn good, standard, non-Spanglish Spanish. Then, once in the country, you will learn localisms - which should be kept for use with locals.

There are too many varieties of Spanish to try to learn a specific one when starting out. I do not advise it, and am basing this advice on decades of experience.

ok, but i got rosetta stone latin america version of spanish because id be using spanish in LA more than anything, not spain

    so that is the point

the two seem pretty different, but having no expierience im not sure how different

for now i have rosetta stone LA version as well as some normal 'practice makes perfect' books which seem pretty good. i guess that'll get me where i want to the point where i can differentiate LA from spain spanish, at least on a basic level

    thanks for your input

    Hi,
I understand that you need to learn "Peruvian" Spanish, well from my own experience I can tell you that marchk is right. I lived in Peru for 3 years and when I got there I only knew the Spanish I'd learned from some "Spain" Spanish books, and it was all right, step by step you will learn also the localisms.
And I must tell you that the Spanish from Peru has the clearest pronounciation and it is very very easy to understand, compared to the other LA countries.

Good luck and I hope you will share your experience!
