Default What does this mean? "no está el horno para galletitas"

    Hi,

I've heard this saying "no está el horno para galletitas" several times and I still don't get the meaning. Could you help?

    Thanks!

It means that you have to wait if you want the cookies? I have no idea either XD

    Hi,

It means that the current situation is not the best for whatever you are asking. Or that the person you are talking to in not in a good mood and is not willing to deal with you.
What would happen to your cookies? If the oven is too hot, they will burn.
In English, you could say "now is not a good time

In Argentina the common saying is "El horno no está para bollos"
Ant it means just what Sophie C Explained. "I'm not available for X" X being whatever made the saying appear.

So it is more like a metaphor: the speaker as the oven and the other person as the cookie.
I think it is more like: Go away and leave me alone.

    Exactly!

Normally you would use that phrase when you're in the middle of a tense situation and, for example, someone makes a joke, to indicate it is definitely not the right time to do so.
