    A well done piece jacobe.

"Moreover, the Spanish spoken in Latin America, which is quite different from that spoken in Spain, can vary significantly from country to country, mostly in terms of the different pronunciation, which creates difficulty in understanding speech.
    "

I find this to be true in English-speaking countries too. Even though I am a native speaker (U.S.), I have to listen intently in order to understand the dialog in some UK English movies and it's really difficult to understand Indian English, not to mention the "English" spoken in my own country by some segments of our society. Personally, I've found that the more educated a person is, the more articulate they are...in any language... and the easier it is to follow the context of their speech and grasp the meaning of words that are pronounced differently.

I totally agree with you on the value of learning Spanish. Even though I still have much to learn, learning the language has been one of the best things I've ever done. It has opened up so much more of the world to me, allowing me to travel and work without anxiety about whether I will be able to communicate. Just participating in this forum alone has been a wonderful and rewarding experience. Among many other things it has taught me that we are all pretty much the same no matter what language we speak.

Thank you, vicente. Glad you enjoyed the post. With regard to English, it is definitely true what you say about difficulty for U.S. speakers to understand U.K. speakers, and vice versa. And as far as your learning Spanish, buena suerte!

    Hi jacobe.

Thank you! I'll still be trying to improve my Spanish when I breathe my last.

Just to be clear, because I wouldn't want anyone to think I'm being critical in my comments. I base them on the movies I watch. The dialog is often fast-paced and in what I'd call street-level English. I'm sure it would be much easier if I were conversing with the person in a give-and-take situation.
