Default Learn Spanish

I like Spain very much and studying in Spain after graduation from high school is my dream. So, I'd like to ask for advice on learning Spanish, I think, it is the first barrier that must be overcome when we go abroad. is there any good suggestion? Thanks.

Just one recommendation Andy. When learning Spanish, avoid spending too much time with other English speaking students, that will only delay the process. Whenyou know that the person you are talking to speaks your native language, it’s almost impossible not to choose the easy way out. Also keep always in mind that language acquisition takes more than just reaching some vocabulary level and the ability to express your thoughts in a target language. Language acquisition also requires culture attainment. So get involved with Spanish natives, learn about their way of thinking, customs and traditions, this will make your Spanish come out more easily and naturally.

Good Look

PS. I have never been to Spain,,but an Elton John song (Daniel) says it is one of the best places to be.

i think that watching cooking shows are a great way to learn another language...they usually speak slowly, pair action with words, plus it helps learning regional foods and vocab. suerte!

Hi Andylow,
I would recommend you to take a crush Spanish course in any city in Spain and if at all possible a part-time job. I´m sure this will help you get immersed in both the culture and the language. If you decide to travel, let us know how it goes!

I would also add: listen to spanish news on Tv, or listen to cassettes (like a spanish course), or anything you have the chance to listen to in spanish. You'll soon find out how much you ear improves!
Good luck

andylow,
i have found a good way is to not only watch spanish movies, etc, but instead to watch things in english and read the subtitles or vice versa, watching in english and reading the spanish subtitles. it helps to begin to adjust...good luck!

Well you could start checking at your public library, depends where are you from, but you'll find very good books to start; or even in cd and dvd.

Now if you have the chance to start clases in your school, don't doubt it; do it! Spanish is going to be the second language more spoken in the world

Best of luck! Learning a new language takes patience and determination. Don't expect it to happen overnight. To really learn a new language you need to cover all your bases. If you really want to learn you need to develop listening, speaking, grammar, vocab, etc.

But the best way to do that is exactly what youre planning--to immerse yourself in the culture.

So good luck, work hard, and have fun!
