Hi! I would like to know which one is the best translation for "Médico de cabecera": physician or family doctor?

Another option, at least used here in Uk would be: GP, which stands for General Practitioner. Hope this helps!

In my country there are not many "médicos de cabecera" left. Those were the ones who used to go to the house of the patients to examine them and prescribe medication, and would not transfer the patients to the hospital unless it was absolutely necessary . If that is the doctor you are referring to here, then the term family doctor seems suitable

In the US family doctor and family physician are used regularly and interchangably. GP is also used but less frequently. Joel

In The USA "medico de cabecera" would be "Primary care doctor" , "Primary care physician" or " Primary care provider". |
