Question Certificado de Estudios - Studies Certificate

    Hello!

Me again with my doubts. My Certificado de Estudios goes like this (originally in Spanish):

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I find problems specially with mallar curricular and put my options between brackets.

My English translation approach is as follows:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    STUDIES CERTIFICATE
In the City of Asuncion, Republic of Paraguay, on the 4th day of MAY of 2009, the Lawyer NAME, General Secretary of the Universidad Americana (American University) Certifies that:
Mister NAME, I.D. NUMBER and RUA (Student Record Number) NUMBER got admitted in this studies house in the year YEAR having cursed the subjects of the [curriculum, diagram curriculum, course structure] of the career of COMPUTER SCIENCE ENGINEERING and as recorded in our files, his grades are as expressed below:
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What do the experts think about my translation? Is it fluent and balanced? Suggestions are very welcome.

The Embassy where I'm presenting this requires literal translation, but I will present the same translation in other applications (I.E. US Fulbright).

    Thanks in advance!

    Mauricio.-

    Hi mauricio,
I wouldn't translate casa de estudios as studies house. I don't know exactly what type of education center/institution that is but I have never heard of that before. They may want you to translate literally but most important thing is that it is understood in the target language.

    habiendo cursado: having taken
I think the word is curriculum, just like that.

About the "career" of Computer Sciences...in English career refers to

Career is a term defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as an individual's "course or progress through life (or a distinct portion of life)". It usually is considered to pertain to remunerative work (and sometimes also formal education).
so, I think here it is not properly used. I am not sure about the word you should use here and keep it literal though. A native should be of more help.
Realmente, el destino del mundo depende, en primer lugar, de los estadistas y, en segundo lugar, de los intérpretes.

I agree 100% with Sandrita. In fact I would tarnslate the frase "esta casa de estudios" as "this academic institution".

As to the word "mallar curricular" I would translate it as "acedemic program". But maybe we can get better options from our group pf friends here.

    Best regards

    Hello Mauricio...and Sandra and Hebe!!

I would change the title from Studies Certificate to Certificate of Study

I would change Lawyer NAME to Attorney NAME (lawyer is the less formal job description; attorney is generally used as a title, e.g., John Smith, Attorney at Law or Attorney J. Smith...rarely, Lawyer John Smith.

I think career OK but would be better written as "in the career field of" ...or more simply "in the field of"

    Thanks SandraT, Hebe and Vicente!

I'm so focus on doing a literal translation that I forget about more appropriated or clear choices. I'll take your suggestions and post the modifications.

Hebe, what is pf? Who are our pf friends?! hehe.

    Hermit! I miss your opinions!

Did some more research and found out that:

    house of studies
    1929
: an educational institution serving scholars of a religious order ― called also house of study
    Merriam-Webster Collegiate® Dictionary
so I will change studies house to academic institution as suggested by Hebe, since my institution is a regular University.

Certificate of Studies is more common as suggested by Vicente. (I never know when is better to use of or change the position of the words...)

And I will avoid using career as suggested by SandraT. Using the form suggested by Vicente "in the field of".

    Thanks again!

    This is what I've done:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    CERTIFICATE OF STUDIES
In the City of Asuncion, Republic of Paraguay, on the 4th day of MAY of 2009, the Attorney NAME, General Secretary of the Universidad Americana (American University) Certifies that:
Mister NAME, I.D. NUMBER and RUA (Student Record Number) NUMBER got admitted in this academic institution in the year YEAR having taken the subjects of the [curriculum, academic program, diagram curriculum, course structure] in the field of COMPUTER SCIENCE ENGINEERING and as recorded in our files, his grades are as expressed below:
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Native English speakers! Your suggestions are welcome too.

    Best regards,

    Mauricio.-

"Certificate of..." is almost always used when speaking of the formal title of a document, e.g., certificate of health, certificate of origen, certificate of authenticity, etc.

In a general reference, in writing or in conversation, it can be called a "Studies Certificate", e.g., "she has a studies certificate from the university" or "the restaurant has a valid health certificate".

Eliminate the word "the" from Attorney.
Substitute "was" for got and "to" for in.
Either place a comma after year of capitalize Having

    My offer:

    CERTIFICATE OF STUDIES
