    Default saber cuándo se dobla?

    Hola.

Me gustaría saber cuándo se dobla la última consonante al añadir -ing. Se que en verbos como put si se hace (putting), pero, en stop se duplica? y en snow o show?? cuál es la regla exáctamente?

    Muchas gracias,

    Hi marianec.

    Yes...stopping, shopping, stepping, etc.
    No...snowing, showing, blowing, etc.

I'm not sure what the "rule" is, if there is one. I rely on what I learned in my spelling lessons. I do know that certain words ending in "b" (webbing, fibbing), "d" (wedding, bedding,), "g" (begging, bragging), "l" (gelling), "k" (trekking), "m" (humming, jamming,), "n" (running, sunning, beginning), "p" (ya), "r" (stirring, starring but not staring), and "t" (spotting, but not sporting, and "v" (revving) double the last consonant.

    Words ending in "c", "h", "j", "q", "w" "x", do not.

Some consonants like "f", "l", "s", "z" are doubled in the verb.

As in Spanish, there are words that do not always follow the pattern so, at least for me, it is a matter of recognition.

I hope this helps you. Maybe there is an English major on the board who could tell us if there is a rule.
