Consider using: "amount originally invested" or "original amount of investment"

The term "original investment" is usually associated to taxes (tax credit, tax deductions, etc.) You'll find bibliography from institutions like the IRS. If the context is more business like (for ex. business plan) I would use "initial investment". Hope this helps!

I'm sorry...I was reading your request and realized that it was more related to accounting than business-marketing literature. So, I would say "original investment" would be the best choice.
