    Default Writing a quote

    Hi everybody,

    Well this is my first post here... I need some input about how to write a proper quote for a translation job. Apart from (obviously) including the rates and date of completion, is it necessary to introduce yourself, talk about your job experience etc, kind of like in a cover letter? Or is it enough to just say why you think you're good for that specific job (because of your area of expertise, for example)? I've worked mainly for agencies (no need to write a quote!) and I recently saw a very elaborated quote posted online which made me wonder if i should change the VERY straightforward type of quote i always use.

    Bienvenido al foro! entiendo que la persona que te contacta solicitando una cotización, tiene referencias de alguien o se contacto con vos mediante tu pagina web, en la cual seguramente aparecen tus datos personales y profesionales, razon por la cual no considero que tengas que incluir esa informacion nuevamente en la cotizacion.
    El cliente podra solicitar tu CV en caso de querer contar con mas referencias tuyas, pero esto es independiente de la cotizacion. La mayaria de las veces, exceso de datos complican, marean mas que aclarar. Ojo!!

    Muchas gracias PIM! Normalmente hago justo eso, simplemente dar la información justa que se pide en una "quote". Sin embargo a veces encuentras trabajos en los que el solicitante se dirige a un grupo grande de traductores (sin conocerlos), y me preguntaba si quedaba mejor incluir una especie de "cover letter". Aunque como dices es cierto, demasiados datos pueden ser incluso molestos y son independientes de la cotización.

    Daniel,

    Te recomiendo mandar la cotizacion, y a lo sumo aclarar o dejar un comentario de que dejas a disposicion tu CV en caso de que lo requieran. Te parece?

    Hi Daniel,
    I also recommend detailing what the quote includes or doesn't include, for example, formatting, translation and edition, translation of non editable text, etc., so that there are no misunderstandings before you deliver the final work.

    Hey Daniel,

    I totally agree with Andreap. When sending a quote, I always make it clear and describe the type of service they would be getting. Here's a short example:

    Translation Process: The translation process at Trusted Translations starts with a content manager reviewing all contents of your document and assigning them to a native Spanish translator familiar with the industry. Once translated, your document will be edited by a second industry-expert translator who will also be a native Spanish speaker. The editor will reference the source text to make sure no text was skipped or meaning was lost during the initial step of the translation process. Finally, the translated document will go through a final proofreading.
