Default Cover Versions!!!

I thought this was an interesting topic to discuss:

Which are, in your opinion, the best and the worst cover versions of a song ever???

I leave you a short list to start with:

Best Covers:

- Sonata Arctica's covers are GREAT: The metal version of Bett Midler's "The wind beneath my wings" is just wonderful.

- Rammstein's version of Depeche Mode's "Stripped"

- Cake's versions of "Perhaps" and "I will survive"

- Nirvana's version of Bowie's "The man who sold the world" (The best cover EVER)

Worst Covers:

- Scissor Sister's version of Pink Floyd's "Confortably Numb" (puaj)

- Catupecu Machu's version of Spinetta's "Seguir viviendo sin tu amor" (Probably known by Argentinians only)

- White Stripes version of Dolly Parton's "Jolene" (No feeling at all. The genre change of the singer doesn't fit :P)

C'mon!! I want to read yours!!!

The one that comes to mind is Rufus Wainwright's cover of "Across the Universe" (Beatles, of course) - actually the entire "I Am Sam" OST is excellent.
I also like how Alanis Morrisette covers "helself", I love her new version of "hand in my pocket".
But for me, some of the best covers in history must be by the Carpenters (A song for you, Close to You, Superstar, Solitaire, Etc.
I grew up listening to them. You should give them a listen!

I'll be back with more cheesy cover examples later ;-)

La Bamba by Rancid.

Hurt by Johnny Cash

Fear of the Dark by Cradle of Filth

Boyz in the hood by Dynamite Hack

Those are all i can think of. One by Children of Bodom, the metallica song. I like when it crosses styles, i.e. Tori Amos singing slayer (terrible version, but you get the idea).

THE WORST-- Sweet child of mine by sheryl crow
