Has anybody checked the "The Simpsons: the movie"? Is it any good? I was told it was something of an extended episode of the series. Others said it was really funny. Has anybody seen it?

Well, I heard the voices are the same for all Latin America. I think both versions are available: subtitled and dubbed, but I guess most copies must be dubbed since Latin America has known the Simpsons in Spanish. Hadn't they changed the voices recently?!

well, in Mexico... there was a time in which the voices were different from the voices than I listened in the past
(my english is bad XD)

but, after the original voices had return...

I just saw "The Simpsons" in Costa Rica. It's being shown in dubbed and subtitled versions (fairly common here). I thought it was funny! I wonder, however, how well the non-Americans in the audience understood the humor of Schwarzenegger as US President, the Pakistani from the convenience store, the jokes about Alaska, etc.

In addition to humor linked to culture and life in general in the country where a story takes place, obviously a lot of humor is linked to puns, plays on words. Many years ago in Puebla I went to see a Pink Panther movie with a Nicaraguan who speaks excellent English and has lived most of his life in the US. The film was subtitled. We were laughing our heads off at the humor in spoken English, but it simply didn't translate well into Spanish. The rest of the audience probably thought we were nuts. In the film "McCabe and Mrs. Miller", I remember a joke with a great punchline, but it was a play on words and in the Spanish translation it was just another story.

I relate completely to what you're saying Thomas. Same thing used to happen with the subtitling of Friends in South America. And let's not even mention Seinfeld, where the humor is both related to the meaning and to the sound of the words created.
What usually happens with "The Simpsons" is that they are hillarious in English, but many of the cultural references (mostly well known by everybody since the rest of the world feeds a great deal on American culture these days) get lost in translation, or replaced by other less known references that "adapt better to the Spanish speaking audience".
Oh, well... but it's good to know that the movie is good!

And... I like it. Well I can´t be very objective because I´m a great fan of ´The Simpsons´.
Yeah, it´s a kind of extension of an episode...that´s true, but I guess that´s what most of fans expect from a movie of The Simpsons, you expect to see same kind of humor, same structure of the episodes... It´s fun ...it´s just ´The Simpsons´!

I was told it was very good. You have all the characters, and some of them doing things you always know they did but never openly like Otto smoking pot, etc.
It's probably a movie for the fans...I'll tell you tomorrow after I've seen it!

I finally saw it and....loved it!!

I recommend it to all the simpson fans out there....in the opening scene when the FOX logo appears, Ralph Wiggum stands in the O and mimics the trumpet, and all the people in the theater started clapping and laughing...I knew it'd be a great movie!
And Bart writes in the school borad "I will not illegally download this movie" hahahahaha, just great.
