Mira que evolucion, Tevez va de las villas Argentinas a ser Chav UK, y despues a futbolero idolo que vende las marcas. Y despues se relega rebeldeando Buenos Aires style, y Lacoste no quiere saber nada!
Esa es la montania rusa de la fama de chavs!

Ah y me parece que la etimologia de Chav tiene poco que ver con el Chavo, aunque seria una linda y logica coneccion.

Después de que hice mi aporte, encontré este escrito que me parece que ilustra bien la evolución y hasta donde se extiende el término de acuerdo a la edad y a la capacidad de gasto que se tenga.

It also depends on your age group. For example, a twenty-five year old would probably avoid Aeropostale as it's geared towards middle and high schoolers. But on the same token, a twelve or thirteen year old would be unlikely to wear Lacoste, an 'upscale' preppy brand.

Hollister's pretty much middle and high school as well. Abercrombie seems to fit more age groups, as they have a store aimed at kids and middle schoolers and another store, the main chain, that is aimed at high school-college.

Stores like Hollister, American Eagle, and Aeropostale are leaning in a cute and flirty direction with their clothing, while brands like Ralph Lauren are classic. Different types of preppy - there's trendy-preppy and classic-preppy.

If you really want to shell out some dough, go for Burberry, Calvin Klein (well, maybe. It depends on what you get and where you buy it), and Ralph Lauren. Like Lacoste, these are upscale brands (especially Burberry. That plaid print of Burberry is infamous!) and are geared towards college-age and older customers.

Your best bet would be to look at all of these brands' websites and discover what you personally want in your style (and price range! I know I could never afford Burberry unless it was on eBay).

Gracias Cotty por completar la definicion y agregar que hay dos tipos de Preppy las clasicas y las trendy. Ahora bien respecto de la definicion de chav encontré Council Housed and Violent, y los definen como a una clase baja campesina británica y para identificarlo usan la típica gorra de beisbol de cuadros Burberry. Este estampado esta tan ligado a los Hooligans que en algunos bares, los porteros tienen instrucciones expresas de no dejarlos pasar.
Es tan rico de terminologia el mundo de la moda!!

Si, al final todos se dedican a la "calidad" que trae la marca, y cuando la marca les supera en precio, mejor, y aun mejor para falsificarla o conseguirla por medios ilegales.

Esto en ingles yo llamaria "Conspicuous consumption" porque el proposito es final es decir, o "yo soy mas rico que vos," o "yo soy mas chavvy que vos."

Quisiera agregar la subcategoria del "Sloane" que es una especie de "preppy" que origina en Sloane Square, Londres, y lleva un look que tiene mas que ver con andar en caballo, pero dentro de la ciudad.
