Quote:
"Little Johnny, why does your little sister cry?"
"Because I helped her."
"But that is a good thing! What did you help her with?"
"I helped her eat all of HER gummy bears."
Quote:
Jaimito, ¿por qué está tu hermana llorando? ¿!Qué le hiciste!? ,
Nada! la ayudé.
Hmm..

I wanted to return to the old-faithful jokes thread, because sometimes the translating exercise requires to contemplate what jokes are translatable.
So I found out that most of the jokes for children have simple set-ups and witty punch-lines.
The best examples are the ones from the Mexican show "El Chavo", done by Chespirito & Co. in the 70's.

Because translating jokes NEVER GETS OLD!
Here ya' go!
Genie: You have 3 wishes.
Quote:
Wild Genie appears: "You have 3 wishes"
Stranding lonely tourist: I've seen this before. Whatever I wish for will come back and bite me in some way.
:- "I promise that won't happen. I'm so sure it won't I'll give you one millon wishes if it does"
:-Okay. I wish for a boomerang with teeth.
:- "You son of a...!!"

Re: Translating humour, the surviving joke
Quote:
"Pretty hot outside Huh" "Oh, shut up!"
