Thank you so much--your suggestion summed it up so nicely! That's perfect. I think that's what others suggested but most of the suggestions were in Spanish, so I wasn't too clear on what to use--though I did learn a bit of Spanish along the way! ....Gracias!

Regarding your question, I think "fiesta" is not incorrect... You could also say you are having a "fiesta de bienvenida" for your friends...

That's one option... Let's see what other people say...

After reading back through all the terrific replies I received, I see you too, clearly suggested "fiesta de bienvenida", which sounds good to me and I think non-Spanish speaking guests would understand. I loved receiving all these posts...Spanish is beautiful and its been fun trying to read them. I will show my Colombia guests all the suggestions.
