Brazilian Native Needs Advise In "How to Sart" As Translator

Hello everyone! I am a Brazilian native living in USA for over six years. I have recently divorced and in need to start a Freelance career in the Translation field. I have Bacherlors Degree in Portuguese and English (as second language) and I have spent 16 years teaching Grammar and Literature in both languages in my country. Unfortunately, my degree and my expertize in both languages means nothing in order to get a good job in US, especially in this part of the country (Arkansas). I would really appreciate if someone could tell me "how to start", "where to go", "what to do"..., please! :confused: Thank you.
