Arturo - hi. I wonder if you could help. I'm struggling to translate some headlines from El Pais for some study work. (The software translators sometimes get confused).
E.g. Hay que dejármela quietecita para que compre que ella es muy comprona y se acercan las Navidades. Could you give me a Spanish
speaker's version of this please ? Thanks

Hi, Tony, Perhaps the phrase can be: Hay que detenerla un poco en sus compras porque ella es muy comprona y se acercan las Navidades.

Arturo - thanks. The word that seems to stymy any software translation is 'comprona'. How would you translate the whole sentence into workable english ? Cheers Tony

    Dear Tony

I am not sure at all but perhaps the sentence can be: "We have to leave her alone so that she buys that she is very buyer and Christmas is coming".

    Best Regards,

Arturo - o.k.. Would this be reasonable ...

'So, we have to leave her to concentrate on her shopping because Christmas is coming'

    Thanks again for your help.

    Cheers
    Tony

    Hello Tony.

I think "comprona" in this context is a woman who likes to shop. Are there any that don't!!?? LOL

I don't know of a single English word that conveys that sentiment but something like: avid shopper; hard-core shopper; shopping addict, etc.

I think your sentence 'So, we have to leave her to concentrate on her shopping because Christmas is coming' is fine but if you want to convey that she loves shopping you might want to incorporate one of those phrases.

Maybe: 'She's an avid shopper so, we have to allow her to concentrate on her shopping because Christmas is coming'
