Default frase incomprensible

Hola!

¿Puede alguien ayudarme entender la siguiente frase?

"Se llama el Julai, pero me dijo que no es un apodo muy amable y que el lo soportaba por recochineo y porque le va la marcha, si la marcha es coña".

Muchas gracias de antemano

hi elisatas - it sounds like julai is a "tough guy" who can handle (manage)
difficult situations.

In Spanish slang we usually use "julai" to name a person who is quite a character, in order to emphasize that he loves the bad life. It's kind of pejorative but in a good way, like calling "pothead" to your friend.

My attempt:

He's name is the crackhead, but he told me it's not a very polite nickname and that he puts up with it just for keeping the joke alive, because he loved kidding if the joke was a joke.

Sorry for the possible mistakes.

Hi Ibarguren,
Just wanted to say hello! I studied Spanish for a short while in Salamanca. What a lovely town. I long to go back.

Hi, Ibarguren, your explanation is perfect, I think now I can understand the phrase.

I wonder, could you give me a synonym for pothead & crackhead? My English is not very good and in the dictionary I can find a strange meaning.

Thanks again

A pothead is a guy who smokes pot (marijuana) and acts like he's always high.

Then a crackhead is a guy who acts like he's on crack (not always literal, of course).

As far as I know, pothead is a very common word in English slang.

P.S. "Julai" is not necessary related to drugs, just refers to a person who is... quite a character.
