Default Necesito ver el fútbol de cara

Hi there I'm trying to figure out the correct english translation for the above.
Necesito ver el fútbol de cara

It literally seems to mean. "I need to see the football looking" lol but obviously that isn't right.

Also I need clarity on this line

Inglaterra no ven a los españoles racistas - I believe it means "England do not see the spanish as racists

    is that right?

Also I am stuck on one question from the interview

    I have translated this as

Are you half the player for Spain that you are for Arsenal?
    A. That has become a cliché.. I do not think too much about it because I know I’m still young. I play in a different way [for Spain] and I try to adapt. In Tallinn, in the last minute, I played in my position because Xavi was in an advance position behind Torres. There I feel more comfortable… I am not playing in the hole behind the goal because I don’t have the body nor the precise agility. I need to see the game and the spaces because I am not very fast or agile. I base a lot on my passing and vision.

Really appreciate any assistance anyone can give

    Thank you!

"I need to face the ball" is probably the best way to say that.

It would seem that, from these words, he is saying that England does not see the Spanish racists, which is almost the exact opposite of what you said. Given your knowledge of English, which is very good, and the context I suspect you simply forgot "como", as in "Inglaterra no ven a los españoles como racistas", which would mean your original translation was correct. But perhaps the player (Fabregas?) is saying something surprising...

    A. That has become a cliché ("quite the topic of discussion" works better for me)... I do not think too much about it because I know I’m still young. I play in a different way [for Spain] and I try to adapt. In Tallinn, in the last part of the match, I played in my position because Xavi was playing in an attacking role behind Torres. I feel more comfortable there… I am not an attacking midfielder who plays with his back to the goal because I don’t have the necessary body nor the agility. I need to face the ball and the spaces because I am not very fast or agile. I base a lot on my passing and vision.

    Hi ScottJ

Thank you so much for your help! I really really appreciate it.

These quotes as you rightly guessed are from Cesc Fabregas he is being misquoted in the UK press this morning and I am trying to understand what he said from the original spanish.

Here is the context of the line I posted before

I did leave out "como" so I think he did say "the English don't see the spanish as racists", but if you could confirm as I don't want to misreport this

    Thank you!

That's what I found, and he is definitely trying to be diplomatic. With the Aragones-Henry story from a few years back, I can't imagine Arsenal fans are going to simply accept the fact that Spaniards are not racist, but is there a reason for him to say this now (aside from the rumors that he wants to play in Spain)?

Hi Scott Thanks! yeah it all came up because the english FA have refused to play a friendly against Spain at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium because England players were racially abused the last time they played there. The black players received monkey chants every time they touched the ball.

Yeah Cesc is trying to be diplomatic and it's a tough line to walk. To say what the spanish media and fans want and at the same time not say anything to offend the english. The english media are reporting that he said "They see us as racists, but I don't think we are, it's a bit extreme" but I don't think, that is what he said based on the quotes I posted above.

For me, this walks two tough lines: acceptable behavior by fans to get in the opponents' heads and how to define "racism" in different cultures. I think the monkey chants or blatant racial taunting of black players is absolutely unacceptable and appalling, but many would argue that the players should just use it as motivation and running away or acting out your frustration only incentivates the screaming ignorant masses. But some times that is just asking the impossible. Regarding the other issue, it's simply not relevant here (there's no gray area in this matter) and way too broad to start discussing. Thanks for the Fabregas quote, I most likely would have missed it otherwise.

Here is a full interview with him btw as you sound like you might be interested.

Oh btw I agree no one is going to believe that there aren't racist elements in Spain of course there are as there are everywhere. It is a shame that the many must suffer for the ignorant actions of the few but unfortunately there are limited ways in which sanctions can be used.

I just think that the way Sky are quoting Fabregas is a bit unfair they are only running one quote and claim he says, "They see us as racists, but I don’t think we are, it’s a bit extreme" which is pretty different from "England don't see the spanish as racists" - and I think by that he meant they don't view the whole country that way.

I just get sick of so much media inaccuracy. I am all for hanging people out to dry for the things they say but there should be some effort to actually report what they did say lol

    Anyway
    Thanks again!
