Hi everyone,
I'm translating a project for a reality show that will develop what here in Argentina is known as a "vedette", its title being "Academia de Vedettes". The term is used several times while describing the project. I know that it could be translated as "showgirl" or "diva". But since it is an Academy that intends to train and teach, I think that either showgirl or diva would sound disdainful. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! |

... "star academy" sounds good to me ! ![]()

Maybe starlet?
What does the academy teach exactly? if it's just a talent competition (singing, acting etc) then star would cover everything without being too specific, but vedettes dance scantily clothed, don't they? then, showgirl might be the right word, or do you think the connotations are too negative? |

In the academy the girls have dancing, acting and singing lessons. The creator of the show is trying to get rid of the negative connotation that the media has given to the word "vedette". Yet its content will be erotic at times, it won't be all "academic". That's what's troubling me!

If you want to keep it academic:
Academy of Artists
