Where is my god of love that it’s been so long since you wrote or called we become estranged,
I thought you were going to ring me yesterday and I put my cellphone in my trouser pocket so I would hear it and could answer immediately,
what’s happening I don’t like your absence on the internet and the telephone,
tell me how are your papers, I pray every night that they are in time
if not we will have to wait some more months, I know you are going to help me and this consolation is what keeps me going you know.

Hello Frank

This person doesn't much believe in punctuation. Not a period anywhere, just a long "sentence". Such writing is becoming way too common.

Just a minor question here. In the first line where you interpreted "ya te extraño" to mean "we become estranged", I wonder if it was not intended as "I miss you".

What do you think?

Hi Vicente,
I don't think "I miss you" would be right.
But I've looked into it further, and "extrañar" also means :
Apartar, privar a alguien del trato y comunicación que se tenía con el.
(To abandon, deny someone the treatment and communication you had with him)
so we might say : it seems you don't want contact anymore
or simply : don't you want to see me anymore ?

Agree ?

Frank.

I certainly don't disagree Frank but I have encountered instances where extrañar was used to say "to miss someone" (I use it in that sense myself) and I just looked in my handy Franklin pocket translator and it does indeed define extrañar as "to miss someone" and extrañarse as "to be surprised".

Is this a regional definition?

Frank, incredible job. But in the case of the "Ya te extraño." piece (it should be a sentence of its own), I have to agree with Vicente: I think it should be translated as "I miss you already." He's not saying that now they've become strangers... (I don't think there's anything to support that thought!) but only that he misses her, wants her to call and all that...

Hi Laura

I'm wondering if extrañar is widely used to say "I miss you". I know I've heard it and used it. It is less intimate than "me haces falta" but I have met people who were not aware of that definition so that was my question. Is it used in Argentina" In Spain? Or is it coloquial?

You are a gentleman sir, but I wasn't really correcting you Frank. I was doubtful about my own understanding of extrañar.
