Default 'a veces' or alguna vez'

    Hi

Can anyone please explain the major differences between 'a veces' and 'alguna vez'? When would you use one and not the other or do they both mean the same thing?

    Thanks Suzy

Suzy, to me "a veces" would be a sometimes and "alguna vez" would be similar I think to a have you ever or one time. Correct me if I'm wrong but that is my opinion.

    Hi,

These two expressions are not the same, they may seem similar in meaning though.
a veces, as Kvillanueva said, is sometimes:
a veces lo veo en el gym (I sometimes see him at the gym)
lo he visto alguna vez ( I have seen him once)
¿alguna vez lo viste? (have you ever seen him?

a veces means not always, occasionally.
alguna vez means at any time or once depending on the context

    Hope the examples are clear
