    1. Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.

    No estoy seguro.

    2. Every child is an artist; the problem lies in how to continue being one when he grows up.

    3. Every child is an artist; the problem is how to continue being one after growing up. (neutral del género)

    4. Every child is an artist; the problem is how to remain one when grown up. (neutral del género)

    5. Every child is an artist; the question is, will he still be one when he's grown up?

    6. ¿O? __________________________________________

The word how is not explicit or implicit in the original quote; therefore, all the choices with how are out of the question.

    5. Every child is an artist; the question is, will he still be one when he's grown up?
    6. Every child is an artist; the problem is whether he will still be [remain] one when he grows up.

    Thank you, Cotty.

I like both of your recommendations. However, it does seem to me that “how” is usually implied when the word “problem” is used. The absense of a “how” is the essence of a problem. I think it would be fair to say: the problem is a locked door, or, the problem is how to unlock the door.

But how to unlock the door is a concrete problem. Whereas here in Spanish the use of the subjunctive implies something unreal, maybe possible, maybe not. I'm in a hurry. Will get back to this in detail later.

Sorry I'm not using how in the translation I'm suggesting:

"Every child is an artist; the question is whether he/she will still be one when growing up".

    when growing up".
