    Default ni modo

I understand what this little phrase means...."ni modo" but I can't seem to find a good English equivalent. Can anybody help me out?

Por ejemplo, Fui a la tienda para comprar pan pero no hay, ni modo.

That's a Mexican expression I think. There are a few phrases in English that can convey the meaning of ni modo depending on the context.

A few that come to mind:

Nothing I can do about it.
    Oh, well...what can you do.
    Nevermind...

Yes, it's a Mexican expression and you gave me very good answers. I actually knew the answer but I was trying to get another opinion. This forum is very clumsy, not like word reference forum. Here, I have to continually log in.

Sometimes it's used as "no way" or "no chance that..." Regarding your need to log in, maybe you have not turned on the option to get the heads-up e-mails when somebody responds to the thread that you either created or contributed to.
