Maria, that was my first impression of the sentence as it was written.

That is, if "Estoy acostumbrado de comer el desayuno a las ocho, por eso como el desayuno a las ocho".

However, it appears that all the other sentences in the preterite so I imagine that was the intent here also.

I think both are ok. It could be " Yo como el desayuno a las 8"...referring to an everyday fact and "Yo comí el desayuno a las 8" talking about this morning.

Las dos posibilidades son correctas. Tienen razón... Pero como todo el ejercicio era en pretérito, opté por COMÍ, en vez de por COMO...

Gracias por todas las respuestas y comentarios!!!

HI bng, if you need to conjugate a verb, try Wordreference.com or Spanishdict.com, both have excellent verb conjugators. You can even introduce a verb form, that is past tense for example, and they will find the infinitive for you.

Estoy acostumbrado a comer el desayuno a las ocho, por eso como el desayuno a las ocho
Actually, the verb comer should not be used here, it must be "tomar". Desayuno includes drink and food, so comer is essentially mistaken here

Exxcéntrica: I'm curious about your explanation. Is it because there are items that you drink and items that you eat at the same meal, so you have to say "tomar" because neither "comer" nor "beber" is accurate or complete?

In English, we definitely eat breakfast, even if it's only coffee!

I would like to make justa comment about the two posible verbs (comer el desayuno o tomar el desayuno)...

If I had to say it in Spanish, I would actually use the verb desayunar, which exists, is widely used and implies either food or drinks...

    Do you agree??

¿No es posible que "Yo como el desayuno a las ocho" significa que todos los días es mi costumbre comer a las ocho?

    Maria
Sorry, but in spanish, al least in Europe, COMER el desayuno is INCORRECT. It is said TOMAR el desayuno or DESAYUNAR. never COMER
