    Default Why isn't "baseball" capitalized?

This is not about translation. It's simply a rule that is driving me crazy.

Shouldn't sports such as baseball, football, etc. be written with a capital letter? Aren't they proper names after all? Toyota is the name of a specific car, therefore should be written, and is always written, with capital letter.

But newspapers always write baseball and football in lower-case. Why?
